The number one and number four pistons crack through the crown, usually after a long period of injector imbalance or a blocked EGR and intercooler restricting airflow. The symptoms are excessive blow-by, oil pushing out the breather, white smoke and a loss of power that cleaning will not fix.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnce a piston has gone the bore is usually scored, and the engine cannot be saved with a head job or a set of injectors.
